I'm sure this might not be to everyone's !! taste, but I think this song has a great message. Just thought I'd mention it here in case you don' know it already
Perhaps its the bit about being your own best friend. Not sure. But like that it suggests relying on ones own resources when the 'outside' seems confusing. I think we understand ourselves better than ANYONE else. So I think this is a very valuable and underused resource. I don't know about you, but I can FAR TOO EASILY defer to 'outside agencies', most often people, for 'external validation'. As they call it.
For me it goes against the grain to trust my perceptions. So that's why I like this kind of stuff.
Have a great Tuesday!
For my Sponsees. Ongoing posts to explain my personal interpretation, and preferred method, of recovering from Alcoholism, using the Basic Text of Alcoholics Anonymous as a template. Based on 20yrs sober life experience. I just add bits when I remember something. NOBODY, including myself, speaks for AA as a whole. Take what you like and leave the rest. Live and Let Live. The Principles of Unity and Tolerance of other people's views and opinions are FAR more important than ANY personality in AA
But I thought perceptions were highly questionable? Thanks for the song, I think her songs are heartfelt.
ReplyDeleteI like the message of Hope thanks. yeh I rely less and less on other people for reassurance. I am always suprised when encouragement appears, and I like it. But I dont rely on it.
ReplyDeleteSelf reliance came, through prayer, and honesty and inventory, all the action steps, and faith, God, well everything really :) its just happened. intuition/conscience can be relied upon, I had to start by making a few mistakes though, and seeking counsel.
Accpet I will not get it right all the time, mistakes are part (spelling) of the course, even for this control freak.
i'll go look up the lyrics.....
ReplyDeleteand i still have a way to go with trusting my instincts. before my drinking i used to trust my gut feeling and they were usually spot on and things generally worked out well. but now i keep second-guessing myself. i need to stop that!!!!
My gut is always right. My head and heart aren't.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the saying "To thine own self be true"? Nice Post!
