I have recovered from the disease of Alcoholism. I believe there is only one person really,.. everybody. And that peace of mind is everything. -So treat your neighbor as you would treat yourself, because your neighbor IS yourself. I think most of recovery is what I would call common sense, but that learning to be ordinary is a true gift very few people acquire. My ambition is to accept everything unflinchingly, with compassion, and therefore be intrinsically comfortable in my own skin, no matter what. I am comfortable being uncomfortable and am willing to go to any lengths to improve my life. I believe the Big Book was divinely inspired, and is extraordinarily powerful. Unfortunately AA's best kept secret a lot of the time. (In my opinion). I just try to do what works, no matter what it is.

Two Wolves

Two Wolves

An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his Grandchildren about life. He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me… it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

“One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

“This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.”

They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Sober Steve reminded me of this when he mentioned this in his blog. This is GREAT and reminds me of what I am doing with this 'The secret' thing. Its one of those things that is so basic that I wanted to put it on here so I could find it later. Its REALLY true. Thich Nhat Hanh says something very similar. He calls them 'seeds' not wolves. Meaning what you think about, nourishes different 'seeds' within us.

Right off to the gym! Thank GOD I no longer feel like a MOOSE. Hhahaa. I really need to groom. Tan, exfoliate, fancy facial etc etc and all that to feel half human. Such a relief! to be back on track a bit. Just the weight to do! It just feels really nice getting back to some sort of normality. I would like to try doing 1500cals in the gym instead of the usual 1000 odd to help shift the extra. Takes a bit longer, but its worth it.

I heard this story when I first came into the halls. I keep a copy of it in my truck for the days that I really need to rememeber that today I have a choice. Thanks for the reminder and have a great day at the gym. I envy you :)

That is a great story about the wolves. Thanks for sharing it. I printed it out to keep. I hope that you have a kick ass work out at the gym. There's a small one on board ship.

Thank you for sharing the story about the wolves. So often the mean wolf in my mind wins, in terms of me focusing on how bad I feel, even if I'm not drinking now. It's good to know there's another way.

I like those wolves...my husband and I were just talking last night about how he thinks he has two brains inside himself...the addict brain and then himself, his real head...interesting stuff.
