Because they are FULL price in January.
I bought about a years worth of super !! high quality vitamins today at half price. I remembered that this time of year is a GREAT time to buy cheap vitamins as everyone is waaay too busy buying mince pies and things that make you fat. So yeah. Now's a good time. Just thought id mention that.
But who knows perhaps they will be cheap all year due to the economics? Gawd knows.
Whatever. Just thought I would share that.
About Me
- An Irish Friend of Bill
- I have recovered from the disease of Alcoholism. I believe there is only one person really,.. everybody. And that peace of mind is everything. -So treat your neighbor as you would treat yourself, because your neighbor IS yourself. I think most of recovery is what I would call common sense, but that learning to be ordinary is a true gift very few people acquire. My ambition is to accept everything unflinchingly, with compassion, and therefore be intrinsically comfortable in my own skin, no matter what. I am comfortable being uncomfortable and am willing to go to any lengths to improve my life. I believe the Big Book was divinely inspired, and is extraordinarily powerful. Unfortunately AA's best kept secret a lot of the time. (In my opinion). I just try to do what works, no matter what it is.

Take a good all round multivitamin if you're new
When people are new, they have probably been eating really badly. Even people who have been around for a while often have poor eating habits. It's actually quite difficult to get all the stuff you need from food.
For instance, because I eat meat sparingly, I need to take iron supplements, and I think I eat pretty well.
So get into the habit of suggesting a good multivitamin for new people, or take one yourself if you're quite new, or not eating properly.
I take Floradix liquid which I get from health food shops for iron. But choose whatever you like. Its quite expensive, but I think the body absorbs iron better in a liquid form.
But the rule is, that until you have learned how to eat well, you should be taking a GOOD multivitamin. Living on biscuits and packets of crisps is pretty useless!!
The super expensive vitamins are the solgar range. But you can get them online too, pretty cheap. Another luxury brand is Cantamega 2000. I'm no expert but you could find an 'ok' one in a high street health food place. For the luxury brands, buy from the states!
But take one every day if you are still living on rubbish food.
*Not all new people are eating rubbish I might add, some have got their food sorted out already.

Even the Dalai Lama eats meat sometimes
I've decided to eat meat. Just not a lot. Or as little as I can get away with for health reasons basically. So I've revised my position on meat. I was thinking of once a month or something. I forgot to take my multivitamins and am a little anemic. Doh! But I feel better now i've had some good quality protein. I'd much prefer to be able to go without meat altogether, but the body works the way the body works. Oh well. I would be alright with humanely reared and killed animals, or roadkill. I opted for mackerel as its wild as opposed to farmed. I only decided to change after I checked it out with some oool healthy people who told me that's what they do. So I figured, well if it's alright for them, well I'll opt for that as well.

A lower fat percentage means you're less likely to get Cancer
And type 2 diabetes
And heart disease.
See BBC article Weight link to breast cancer risk
Do yourself a favor and go to the gym! An hour every day would be great. And stop eating things that you tend to overeat, because that's what makes your fat percentage go up.
The NHS is already on its knees, so don't expect prompt treatment when you need it. Take preventative steps now by reducing your fat percentage, increasing muscle mass, and eating bland healthy foods in moderation.
You will thank me later when you are informed by your local health authority that they cannot provide any more diabetes drugs till the beginning of the next financial year (April 200?) because they have already spent their entire budget for medication, but that you may be able to buy the drugs yourself over the internet from Croatia. But that they cannot guarantee that the drugs are made to the standards they expect in the NHS. You will end up spending your savings on dodgy pills from croatia to tide you over till April. You won't have a choice. Because if you do not medicate your type 2 diabetes every day, you risk losing your eyesight or a limb, or going into hypoglycemic shock.
Trust me it PAYS to take care of your body. Fat percentage is no longer a 'vanity' issue. Its desperately important, and may be the determining factor that prevents you getting cancer and diabetes in future.
Basically the gym is NOT an option!
Sorry! But its true I'm afraid....
The writing is on the wall with the NHS. So take preventative steps today!!

Nuts and seeds from Covent Garden Tesco
...if you happen to be passing.
In my opinion they are of better quality and cheaper than both holland and barret and health food shops.
Also they have an EXCELLENT seed mix which can be eaten on its own. Its got lots of essential oils in.
The Tesco in covent garden has by far the biggest seed and nut range I have seen in the other west end tescos.
And nuts can be really quite expensive under normal circumstances, so its worth getting ones that are very fresh and crunchy.
The poorer quality ones can be soft, old or have moth type things in them if they are stored incorrectly. Holland and Barrett tend to be ok, but I think the tesco ones are cheaper and crunchier.
And last time I was in there, there was loads of really ok punnets of nectarines and plums reduced to 50p each. Which i don't EVER see at my local (kak) tesco.

Cheese and Salmon have the same feel-good chemical as chocolate
Well salmon is out for me, so I rely on the cheese option.
The best low fat cheese is cottage cheese. Try it. I used to think it was rubbish untill I found a 'combo' that worked. See what appeals to your pallate. It's very low GI as well, so good for keeping diabetes at bay.
Add..
Honey
Honey and ground cinnamon
Honey and freshly ground nutmeg
(Baby food) sugar free apple and pear pudding and ground cinnamon
Honey and cashews (if you're feeling very decadent)
You could try mozzarella with tomato, avocado and vinigrette. This one's no good for me because I'll eat too much at a time. The cottage cheese option is better for me.

If you can't eat it in moderation. Avoid it altogether.
Perhaps wait till you get to step 9 before you try this. Its more of a long term goal than an early recovery thing.
Eat bland foods if you have a tendency to overeat
Un processed food
Fruit vegetables
Eat stuff like in the book 'you are what you eat'.
Basmati whole-wheat rice is ok.
Add marigold low salt stock
And liquid aminos for flavour
Sprinkle some linseeds on when its cooked. Or sunflower or sesame seeds.
Add pine nuts and raw sugar snap peas
Or curry powder, raisins and coconut. Perhaps a few cashews as well.
Or broken up omlette and cashews.
Or celery apple and cashews
Or tomato, cucumber, feta cheese and olives
Or tomatoes, celery and cucumber
Or tomato puree, chili sauce and kidney beans
Or some DECENT tofu brand. From better health food shops.
Or just some soy sauce
Whatever really
Add Omega 3 6 9 oil and freshly squeezed lemon or lime.
Go to the salad bar of a GOOD vegetarian health food place (or look at what even places like marks and spencer are selling) and get some ideas from the things they are serving

Avoid eating meat as much as you can
Apart from the fact that it can still be putrefying in your colon 20 years later, its bad karma. The food industry is positively evil in many ways, but is at its worst in the way it treats animals.
Roadkill is alright though. If you like that kind of thing! No ethical dilemma there!
But take cod liver oil for joint protection.
Dairy is ok. But stick to low fat and organic if possible.
Buy mixed nuts and seeds. Not the more-ish ones like cashews or pistachios.
Almonds are very good.
Put mixed nuts and seeds into smoothies.
The ones coated in 'yoghurt' are full of sugar and are very addictive.
Cottage cheese and parmesan is ok.
Watch out for high fat cheese. Use it sparingly if possible.
Eat GOOD oils
Almonds
Raw Avocados
Omega 3 6 9 oil from health food shops
Linseeds
Flax Seeds

Eating the Flesh of our Ancestors
Is the Buddhist term to describe what happens when we do things that are bad for our body
Such as
Eating poisonous foods or foods that make us obese.
Over drinking
Using addictive substances
Smoking etc
To protect the gene pool handed down to us by our Ancient ancestors, we must not mistreat the body.
This is (genuinely) one of the reasons I eat well and go to the gym. Its out of respect to my ancestors, and the dna they have given me.
I know it sounds weird, but its true. Your body is an inheritance from your ancestors.
Recent research has also shown that what we eat in this lifetime, affects (at least) the well being of our GRANDCHILDREN.
So if you care about the health and wellbeing of any grandchildren you may have, eat well, and they will benefit DIRECTLY
I quote
Biology stands on the brink of a shift in the understanding of inheritance. The discovery of epigenetics – hidden influences upon the genes – could affect every aspect of our lives.
At the heart of this new field is a simple but contentious idea – that genes have a 'memory'. That the lives of your grandparents – the air they breathed, the food they ate, even the things they saw – can directly affect you, decades later, despite your never experiencing these things yourself. And that what you do in your lifetime could in turn affect your grandchildren.
