Hey its an NLP trick I heard someplace. Some mind body spirit type thing. Its actually quite fun to do and is a dang site better than staring guiltily at the pavement or avoiding peoples eyes in crowded city centers whilst walking about. Alkies are great 'pavement-starers'. Gawd knows why.
I love those Americas/Britain's Next top model TV shows, because I love seeing people turn from 'caterpillars' into 'butterflies'. Ok, so they are all a bit ! mad, but the transformation is pretty impressive. Gives me hope!
Anyway it takes them AGES to learn how to walk right, (even with PROPER tuition) and trying to walk properly is a REALLY easy way to improve your appearance. I mean, what's the point of having really cool clothes if you slouch or cant stand up straight? Anyway, after watching those contestants really struggle to walk right, I thought it wouldn't do any harm to make more of an effort to have a good posture, and the old 'cloak' trick came to mind. Made me laugh, and I thought I'd share it.
NLP workshops cost a LOT of money you know, so I've saved you a few quid with that little tip!
About Me
- An Irish Friend of Bill
- I have recovered from the disease of Alcoholism. I believe there is only one person really,.. everybody. And that peace of mind is everything. -So treat your neighbor as you would treat yourself, because your neighbor IS yourself. I think most of recovery is what I would call common sense, but that learning to be ordinary is a true gift very few people acquire. My ambition is to accept everything unflinchingly, with compassion, and therefore be intrinsically comfortable in my own skin, no matter what. I am comfortable being uncomfortable and am willing to go to any lengths to improve my life. I believe the Big Book was divinely inspired, and is extraordinarily powerful. Unfortunately AA's best kept secret a lot of the time. (In my opinion). I just try to do what works, no matter what it is.

Juniper cleansing bath: "Cleaning off' negative vibes AFTER the event
Times when you might want to use a Juniper cleansing bath are:
If you have been on the receiving end of sour, angry poisonous words.
If someone yelled at you.
If a boss was aggressive to you at work.
If a driver yelled something very aggressive at you.
If a relative HATES you, and you have to be in a normal sized room with them for 2 hours, even though you do not speak to them.
If poisonous words were directed at you.
If you were stuck in a physiaclly confined space with a disturbed or angry person.
If you just had a row.
If you feel completely DRAINED after having spoken to someone.
If you can tell someone hates you, or really dislikes you, even though they never actually SAY it. You can just 'feel' it.
If you are physically very close to very depressed people, very sick people, work in hospitals where people are dying or critically ill.
If you work in a shelter or something. Or physically close to very mentally disturbed, aggressive, violent and out of control people.
You have been in a very negative building. A place where people have been tortured or what have you. You know. Places where violence has habitually occurred. Prison cells. Gawd knows. I went to a prison museum once without really thinking about it. Never again!
If you have felt threatened by the way someone looks at you.
Bad vibes basically!
I call em 'toxic people and situations'. They are just places where there is a lot of sickness. That's all.
I can't speak for you but I cannot help but be affected by others moods, good and bad, so sometimes I sort of need to 'detox' after exposure to messed up people. of which there are many! I live in a pretty crowded area so cannot really avoid people!
I got this tip from a Patricia Davis Aromatherapy book by the way..
How you do it:
You just put 2 drops of PROPER !!! (meaning high grade from a GOOD supplier like Fragrant Earth online) Juniper essential oil into a bath of CLEAN water. Stick it in while the tap sare running and mix it through. When its full, just soak in the water for 10-20mins or something. that's all. Use the CLEAN water to sort of go through the motions of 'washing' yourself. DO NOT USE SOAP, bath salts or other ? products. Just the clean water with the 2 drops of essential of mixed into the filled tub. Make sure you wash your head properly. It's always a bit difficult to soak ones head properly in the bath! Its just like having a bath really, but without any regular products as such. When you are 'done' have a normal bath after the 20min soak if you feel like it. It doesn't really matter. The 'proper' name for this type of bath is a ''ritual cleansing bath'. Whatever. It doesn't really matter what you call it. Patricia Davis is 'top dog' in the aromatherapy world by the way. She knows what she is talking about. I find the stuff she suggests works. But see for yourself. Don't take my word for it.
It's a GREAT way to ? wash that 'stuff' off. Works for me!
I started doing stuff like this after step 11 as I felt MUCH more sensitive to other people after that. Still do. Some people (admittedly not many) leave me ! wiped out for 24 hours after 4 hours conversation. I'm just exhausted!! Other times if I have been in close proximity to a LOT of very anxious or distressed people, I feel like I need to wash 'something' off me afterwards. Whatever. If you get round to doing a few retreats in step 11 you will know what I mean. At the end of, say a five day retreat, returning home can be quite jangly and unpleasant. Like someone turned the volume up and fast forwarded everything, and filled it with conflict and sourness. It wears off, after you get used to 'normal life' again, but the adjustment is not pleasant!

Summer Solstice at Stonehenge
Today is the longest day of the year. The Summer Solstice. And if you are a 'die-hard New-ager', you hoof off down to Stonehenge to check out the sunrise. Haven't QUITE got round to it myself, as I am FAR too fond of home comforts, but I BET you there is a !! GREAT vibe there.
Here's some nice photos of it that are on the guardian webpage
By the way. If you are ever a bit doubtful as to when these things happen, just check Jonathan Cainers webpage as he always writes something about it. Eclipses, Solstice's.. you name it!

Two Alaskan 'sacred space' sprays at the Homeopathic Hospital Pharmacy
They now sell these two sprays which I really like.
They are a handy way to 'transport yourself' into a 'better space' with very little effort! They will not have much of an effect if you have other very destructive life habits! But they can have a very pleasant improvement when your life is based on generous spirited principles and you would like a bit of a lift when something difficult has come along.
(No I do NOT have shares in these things!)
Calling All Angels.
(£12.50 or something for 150ml.)
This one REALLY does connect you with a VERY NICE energy. I'm not an expert on Angels, but it DOES feel like angelic energy. Very SOFT. Beautiful actually.
Guardian (£12.50 or something for 150ml.)
This one is protection. I feel 'safe' and 'contained' and 'not grubby' (like I have something 'grubby' stuck to me) when I use this one.
Royal London Homeopathic Hospital,
Great Ormond Street,
London WC1N 3HR
Pharmacy is open from 9 to 5. Monday to Friday.

Blissed out post-9th-Step weekly schedule..
I hate admitting this, but I actually did this kind of itinerary for 2-3 years.? I can't remember. I was a total junkie for the whole step 11 deal. I LOVED how it made me feel and I had this insatiable curiosity about how on earth it worked. I just couldn't get enough of it.
There's LOADS more stuff out there that you can do, but I thought id start with a basic structure for those of you that are that stage in your recovery. I know it looks a bit over the top, but I loved it. It felt great. I'm sure you'll figure out what appeals to you.
Monday.
1-6pm.
NFSH Healing at Leicester Square. Don't get there later than 5.30pm or you'll miss the proverbial boat. Nip in to Watkins on the way for a browse.
7pm
Alternatives. Piccadilly Circus.
Yes its just an excuse to flog books, cd's etc, and 99% of the people that show up are usually scoping the joint for a date. But don't let that put you off. There are some VERY respectable authors that show up. And for 10 quid that's alright.
Tuesday
1-4pm
NFSH Healing at the Homeopathic Hospital. If you are free during the day.
By the way there is an alright lunchtime meeting 1-2 a stones throw away as well, if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
7pm
Amaravati meditation group in Holland Park. You need to phone beforehand AND BE VERY POLITE beforehand. You can't just show up. Ask me for the phone no and I'll txt it to you.
Wednesday
7pm.
Meditation Group at the London Buddhist Vihara (See links menu)
THIS IS A PROPER MONASTERY SO PLEASE SHOW UP AT LEAST 10MINS EARLY.
Why? Because the silence is deafening. Making late entrances REALLY awkward. And rude.
Thursday
Where else to go but the finest meeting in London town. Possibly the universe! Hahaaa. Just kidding with you!!
The purpose of attending to attend to your sponsees and be of service to the newcomer. As opposed to a social club that is. The intention makes ALL the difference I find.
Friday
2.30-8.30pm.
NFSH Healing at Leicester Square. Don't get there later than 8.30pm or you'll miss the proverbial boat. Nip in to Watkins on the way for a browse.
6.30-9pm
Join the taster class at the Zen school of shiatsu. 8 quid or something. Its very healing! Resist the urge to sign up for the 3 grand course straight away! Its very tempting!
Naff off to Amaravati for the weekend as a guest OR to attend one of their (VERY cool) weekend retreats.
Saturdays
10.15-1pm
Thich Nhat Hanh Sitting group of Lay (meaning non monastic) followers at Hop Gardens. See Links Menu for details. They listen to a talk by Thich Nhat Hanh and do some sitting and walking meditation. Sometimes you meet some interesting people at these types of things. Like AA, the occasional 'crazy' (?) shows up from time to time, so don't just assume everyone is 'together'.
2-8.30pm
Long Meditation class at the London Buddhist Vihara.
VERY cool, as you get to hear a talk (hopefully) by the Abbot. Who is a VERY cool human being.
Last Saturday of every Month. The next ones are..
28th October
25th November
27th January
Or go to the meditation class at Amaravati. But its a bit of a hike getting there.
Sundays
10-5pm
Every now and again they have a Meditation Sundays with a visiting Theravdin monk at the Buddhist Society. Victoria. Check the events section of their webpage.
I think you may need to become a member to attend. But its a nominal yearly fee.
They also have a Zen monk/nun come to visit some Sundays from 11-3.30.
You could try going to one of the HUGE massive ANCIENT churches in London for a Christian service just to see what it feels like.
St Paul's for instance
Or Westminster Cathedral.
You know, somewhere very ancient and famous. London is FULL of them, and they do have great energy. I haven't been to services myself. But I LOVE the way they feel and how ancient they are. And they are very beautiful too I might add.
Weekend Mind body spirit type workshops.
They usually cost about 200-300 quid. Pretty expensive, so only go with the MOST critically acclaimed authors. There are a lot of kooks out there!! Be careful what you spend your money on!
Well if you do that every week, you may feel completely spaced out and fabulous!! Heh heh.
People will start calling you a Space Cadet! But that's a small price to pay for how nice it feels..

A 'neutral' Oracle: The I Ching or Book of Changes by C.G. Jung, Richard Wilhelm
In order to do this you will need to buy the book: I Ching or Book of Changes by C.G. Jung, Richard Wilhelm, and Cary F. Baynes. About 10 quid on amazon.
Its always handy to learn how to consult some sort of oracle. The I ching is a steady, very neutral choice. Not entirely easy, but simple in many ways.
One of the reasons I managed to stay away from really crummy guys I was attracted to BEFORE I got to AA, was because I always ran it past the I ching. The answer was always a resounding no! And in hindsight I think it very often showed me my upcoming rock bottom. Even though that's not realy what I was asking about most of the time.
Anyway. I'm just mentioning this as a way to make sense of what's best for us when we are attracted to someone in recovery. Its a useful frame of reference in addition to our conscience and the feedback we get from others. Its a third party endorsement, so to speak. An impartial advisor.
Mind you, just because it doesn't say 'run for the hills' doesn't mean the guy is right for you. Just because they are not serial killers, isnt good enough! It helps if they are not in an imminent path to destruction via drink or drugs, but hopefully we will be looking for somewhat more to life than that in a future partner. A wonderful and satisfying partnership would be nice! A safe place to confront our fears of holding back. Whatever. Something slightly better than someone who is not a complete arse or heading toward an early grave, or mental institution.
If you don't feel comfortable with this then fine, don't do it.
I might add that when I used the I ching before coming to aa, I was VERY respectful of the process and did exactly what the instructions suggested. I went to a lot of trouble to store them correctly, and use as instructed.
This is probably because I had been using other divinatory methods such as palmistry and playing cards etc etc since the age of 12. But the I ching is a sort od 'official' divining tool. Quite respectable, and long in the tooth. Also very 'neutral' for want of a better word. I know a former nun that used the I ching, so I feel it is ok to mention it here. I see it as 'not allied with any sect' or something. Who knows. Im not sure how to explain it.
With all these things, I recommend that you use them carefully and respectfully.

Physical Therapies
All these things are powerful ways of changing your energy, and altering your mind state. They are very healing, and improve your 'energy'. Very protective. And of course make you feel good. Will also reveal things to you as any step 11 thing would.
Polarity Therapy
Energy Exercises: Easy Exercises for Health and Vitality, Based on Dr.Randolph Stone's Polarity Therapy
This is where I got the Taoist Arch from! VERY POWERFUL. VERY HEALING.
Very simple do-able exercises that change your energy. Can be done easily by buying the book.
Chi Kung.
Chi Kung: The Way of Energy by Lam Kam Chuen
Standing meditation. 'Stand like a tree'
Can be done for just 5minutes a day. VERY POWERFUL. VERY HEALING.
Can be followed easily from the book. Its very healing.
The Zen School of Shiatsu EC2A 4NP
VERY HEALING. Fully clothed massage. Not intrusive. Fridays are a taster session. 6.30pm - 9pm no need to book, £9.
People are always on the pull at these types of things so be warned! Also Kris is always getting intimate with students but is NEVER sexually inappropriate. He does loads of tantric stuff, so that's why. I'm just warning you!!
There are many schools but this one is good. And Kris is a good teacher. There is quite a lot of sexual energy floating about, but that's to be expected on account of the other types of therapy they do apart from Shiatsu. They do other more sexually orientated stuff. I'm not recommending that stuff. But the shiatsu is taught well here and they are sexually responsible, so it's 'safe'.

Subtle Aromatherapy. Use it at home.
Study the book Subtle Aromatherapyby Patricia Davis. to find out how to use the oils
And buy essential oils ONLY from FRAGRANT EARTH.
Good for general use is Organic Lavender Rare (2-3 drops) and Vetiver (2-3 drops) Be careful with the candle!
Better is Roman Chamomile. Good for honesty, communication, and old trauma.
Bergamot. Softens the heart. For those of you with hardened hearts out there! turns you into ' a sentimental old fool'!.
Juniper. 3 drops in the bath for a ritual cleanse.
You will need an oil burner with a DEEP basin
Buy one from Culpeppers in Covent Garden
THERE IS SO MUCH AROMATHERAPY CRAP OUT THERE THAT YOU HAVE TO STICK TO THE 'PROPER AUTHORS' AND 'PROPER SUPPLIERS' OTHERWISE IT WILL NOT WORK.
You can achieve the same stuff by other forms of prayer and meditation, but you may as well learn how to use these things, so that you at least have the option. Also they DO work.

God REALLY does speak to you through 'random' people in (and out of) meetings
Actually I DO go to meetings to hear what God has to say to me through random people. Or to see who God has decided to put in my path that day. I AM taught by the synchronicity of both what people say and do in meetings. Also by who shows up. It IS true. You DO hear what you need to hear, if you are TRYING to stay in fit spiritual condition. I might add that part of staying in fit spiritual condition, means (for me) that I aim to be neither AA dependent, meeting dependent, or person/sponsor dependent. So I pretty much know that I can feel pretty good even if I go to very few or no meetings. I have been going to about one a week since November 05 because I've been co secretary, and if you know me, I'm sure you can see that I'm fine! (Actually I needed to go to more to find speakers, and I have enjoyed going to more.) Having said that, I am sure that if I really needed to go without meetings I would be fine. I have in the past gone to one every 6 weeks. Reluctantly! But I can be 'of service' ANYWHERE. I don't need to be in a meeting to do that. So if you are my sponsee, in theory that option is available to you, IF you decide to approach recovery in a similar fashion to myself. AA badly needs good sponsors though, so I hope you continue to look for people that really WANT what you've got and are willing to do exactly what you suggest. Because if they get well, they will be a great blessing to AA. In my opinion.
I'm only saying that because I don't want you to bugger off to have a life after step 9 without putting anything back into AA. Trust me you will NEED the 'good karma points' generated by 'constant thought of others' in order to invite blessings into your life! It may seem like you are constantly having to get busy making 'lemons into lemonade', but HAVE FAITH!! Sponsoring alcoholics is on of the MOST powerful ways I have found of generating 'good karma points'. So use it! Its a VERY powerful spiritual 'workout'. It produces MASSIVE amounts of blessings in every sense. Mental, emotional, physical, coincidental. Everything really. For me it has proved to be a very powerful vehicle for getting where I want to get in my mind and my emotions. I have experienced what I think are miracles of healing. I really _should_ be a train wreck. It really not normal for me to be happy, or even have enough basic skills to make my life better. If I have these skills, they are a gift from God and nothing else. They certainly did NOT originate in me. They are blessings.
So, DO THE RIGHT THINGS AND THE RIGHT THINGS WILL HAPPEN!!
That's REALLY how it works. I have come to rely on it!!
The Universe knows EXACTLY what you are doing and will reflect back to you what you 'put out'. Trust me, the world is SO weird it would make your head spin if you even had a HINT of how weird it is. NOTHING is quite as it seems! And the 'world of the Spirit' is VERY real. And sees everything! And reacts accordingly! And knows a LOT more than you will EVER know. Thank God for a higher power to look out for us in this weird business of trying to make sense of life!
PS Please ignore this if this 'does your head in'. Its a post step 9 conversation really. Step 11 stuff I suppose..

Mild Space Clearing
This will improve the 'atmosphere' of your living space.
Basically it 'raises the vibration' slightly. Not much, but its better then nothing.
If you do one of these every day the effect does build up.
One of the BEST space clearing things you can do for ANY space is to be pray and meditate in it. Either that or do helpful/ unselfish actions in the space. Just be a nice human being in that space, and the space will feel better eventually.
There may be a residual 'bad vibe' where you live, IF you lived there while you were drinking. You can either move or do a bit of space clearing and generate some good karma in that space.
Incense. Daily. (See two posts ago about Chamomile and Vetiver)
Oil burners. Daily. 2/3 drops Lavender and 2/3 drops Vetiver is a good combo for general home use.
Resin burnt on charcoal. Frankincense is nice. Not very often because its very sooty.
White Sage. Once in a blue moon or when you first move in somewhere as its a bit of a pain and gets ash everywhere.
You need a decent feather to use the white sage with. You can get one from Wilde Ones on the Kings Road.
Disclaimer: Please be careful with candles!!! Or anything lit!! Please use your commons sense here, because you snooze you lose!

To Sponsors. Step 5. Chamomile and Vetiver in an oil burner
Its not necessary, but I like using these for step 1 and 5 appointments.
I think they are beneficial to both sponsee and sponsor
Roman Chamomile 3 drops
Vetiver 3 drops
Possibly
Organic Lavender Rare 3 drops
Vetiver 3 drops
You will need an oil burner with a DEEP basin
Buy one from Culpeppers in Covent Garden
Essential oils from Fragrant earth.
Some night lights
(If you want an explanation) Subtle Aromatherapy book by Patricia Davis.
Also I like burning Sai Baba Nag Champa incense before the appointment.
Buy large packs from Watkins centre in Cecil court. WC2.
Either that or Holy Cat incense, But its more expensive.

Want some advice or feedback from a 'Wise Being'? Try Active Imagination!
WARNING. You motive for having this conversation should NOT be selfish.
If you want to 'better' your life, in ANY way shape or form,
It should be for THE BENEFIT OF ALL SENTIENT BEINGS
And NO other reason.
You have been warned!!!
Selfishness does NOT work well for you in the realm of the Spirit!!!
What goes around comes around and all that...
Also please be respectful when you do this.
Hmm. How do I explain this.... (without sounding like a lunatic!!)
As far as I am concerned, this is a step 11 'trick'.
This can be done by anyone, but I normally explain how to this AFTER step 9.
Basically you can talk to ANYONE.
Here's how
Personally I like to have a nice space to do this in. Its no different than when you have guests round for dinner. You want to have the place nice. Its not REALLY important, but it IS a nice thing to do.
Its not a ranting opportunity. More of a 'consultation'.
I instinctively feel like I ought to be very respectful when I have these consultations. I don't do them willy nilly. Even though I feel as though I could. I only do this if I feel I have something important I need to consult with them about. I do not want to be more of a drain on 'them' than I absolutely need to. I encourage you to be respectful of this process whilst at the same time, being as honest as you can.
Make a cup of tea, sit down and have a chat with a 'Wise Being'.
Out loud. Or in your head if you are more adept.
Just 'imagine' that there is a wise being there, and you are chatting to 'he/she/it'
Just see what happens..
Try it for, say 30mins or so to start with
But once you get the 'hang' of it, you can do it more instantaneously and for shorter periods.
Ask advice..
Questions..
What do you think of this? Type of thing..
Or what do you make of that?..
Or do you think I'm full of shit?..
Or Am I kidding myself about this?..
Or I just don't know what I'm doing here!..
Or what do YOU think I should do about this?..
Or will I EVER get better at 'x'......
Just about anything you like really..
The rule is BE HONEST.
NOT 'nice'
Tell the truth!
Be yourself!
Stop pretending!
Tell it like it is!
And listen!
Write down the 'feedback' that comes into your head AFTER you have spoken your 'truth', (for no other reason than) you will probably forget it if you don't.
Don't write it down at the time. Wait untill after the 'conversation' has taken place before you start jotting down the perceptions that come into your head.
Tell me how you get on with this because I always like hearing how this goes..
Disclaimer. This should BENEFIT you.
If for some reason you feel WORSE instead of BETTER after you have done this
Then as far as I am concerned. You are doing it WRONG. So please do NOT do it until I have had a chance to give you some corrective feedback.
So please consult me if this is not 'working' for you.
PS Active Imagination has its origins in the Jungian Tradition, but is mirrored in many other faiths and traditions. Basically its a universal truth as far as Im concerned, but I cant be bothered explaining it to be honest. Have fun!

Weepy? Overwhelmed? Try the Taoist arch!
Stand with feet shoulder width apart
Or an comfortable pose
Bend the torso back, looking upward
Without excessive strain
Reach the arms out fully to the front, the sides, and behind the lower back
Breathe fully
Exhaling with a deep sigh of satisfaction or a warm expression of greeting and enthusiasm.
Excellent for emotional processing. This can be dramatic and forceful when the pose is held for a minute or more
